It is always a traumatizing experience to realize that your loved one has been involved in substance abuse. Sometimes you sit down in your private world and wonder if there is something you could have done to avoid something like that from happening. What makes it even worse is the fact that there could be times when you suspected that your loved one is taking drugs and you did not do anything. If you are an employer and you have a mandatory drug test for your workers, you will also need to employ various ways of testing. But many a times when one hears of drug testing, we only think of police and drug testing agencies coming to take samples and taking them for lab analysis. This is not always the case. Random student drug testing is a powerful public health tool that discourages students from using dangerous, addictive drugs, and confidentially identifies those who may need help or drug treatment. Random testing also promotes a safer, healthier school learning environment.
We’re encouraged that more and more schools across the nation are considering random testing programs to keep students safe and healthy. This story out of Tampa illustrates just one more example of their success. At Tampa Catholic High School ZERO students out of 120 tested positive for drugs this year.
